Maoli Music....Beyond genre, Beyond boundaries, Maoli Music links us like our ancestors to the roots of what is maoli, the truth, maoli music's truth comes from the limitless ability in our expression of our existence, with this place, us as a people, and the world around us. Maoli Music works to strengthen and define the foundation laid by our kupuna, and ensure Maoli existence into perpetuity. We speak of what we live and the music is the language that we speak ...
People have been using the term maoli to describe what is happening with some of the music being made in Hawai'i nei today, here are some of our ideas about maoli music.

1. Ke ola nei ka poe aloha aina, aka nae, o ka hapanui o kakou o ka aloha aina, aole hiki ke maopopo ka olelo makuahine . No laila, maikai paha ka haku ana i na mele maoli, mai kapae i na kanaka maopopo ole ka olelo makuahine o nele paha lakou. A haku he mele maoli, me ka manao o ka poe aloha aina, me ka hilinai pau ole i na kupuna a kakou. I kekahi manawa, ua haku ia na mele maoli , i ka olelo makuahine, a i ole i ka olelo pai ai, i kekahi manawa i ka olelo pelekane, oiai ua maopopo ia lakou keia olelo. Hookomo ia ka manao o ke aloha aina i mea e hoihoi ai na kanaka oiwi maopopo ole ka olelo Hawaii, i na mea Hawaii . He wahi manao wale no keia e hui kala mai no ka mea hewa.

2. We have beautiful places, people and beaches but we also have some problems, maoli music is a venue to express and open up dialogue on these issues.

3. We have a voice and are from this place, we write about these experiences as Hawaiians today, through pidgen, english or 'ölelo makuahine

4. The music we write is maoli, it is true to us and our experiences (today yesterday or tomorrow) as Hawaiians today it comes mai ka na'au mai (from deep within).   We could be talking about love, politics, or play but it is all coming from the same place. As a belief we think our kupuna take us to the place of creativity.

Maoli. 1. vs. Native, indigenous, aborigine, genuine, true, real actual; very, really, truly.
